I came to Washington, D.C., to be part of a bilingual L'Arche community, where adults with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together, sharing their lives. Since 2014, I have spent many years working in our four homes in Greater Washington DC, collaborating with adults with intellectual disabilities to create an experience of home and community that makes visible the gifts, contributions, and leadership of people with an intellectual disability. Some charisms I see in this community are fidelity, celebration, and an ongoing recognition of our need for one another.

A collaborative project with the Colmar Manor Green Team, the Community Native Plant Project, and Joe's GreenWorks, my wife, Crisely, and I are working together with neighbors in Colmar Manor, Maryland to restore a small forest to health. Each month, a group of neighbors, park rangers, local nonprofits, friends and volunteers come out to clean up trash, remove invasive plants and work in a forest that had been used for dumping for many years. So far, we have planted 300 native plants and 8 trees, and we’re just getting started. Join us sometime!
